My name is JIM STAUBER and I want to represent you on the Williamson County Commissioners Court!

Vote for me in Precinct 2!

Precinct 2 includes Liberty Hill, Leander, and Cedar Park;
the Anderson Mill area of Austin; a section of western Georgetown;
and several adjacent unincorporated areas.

I know I can do a better job of representing the interests of the people in our
 precinct than our current commissioner does, and my presence on the
court will result in a better functioning court for the county at large.

Do you ignore local offices when you vote on election day?
Do the people we elect for President, Governor, or Congress seem more important?

 If so, you ignore local elections at your own peril.

Our local politicians affect our lives and our pocketbooks on a daily basis.

 What does the Commissioners Court do?

Commissioners Court is not a judicial body.  It is the general governing body of the county.

It collects and it spends your money!

THE COURT:

Sets the tax rate and adopts the county budget.

Negotiates contracts on behalf of the county.

► Authorizes payment of all county bills.

Calls county bond elections.

Spends any bond money that voters approve.

Builds and maintains county roads, bridges, county facilities, jails, courthouses, and parks.

Manages all county facilities.

► Administers the county's public health and welfare services.

Provides veterans assistance.

► Appoints county officials and hires personnel.

Is responsible for all election activities of the county.  It sets voting precinct boundaries,
     appoints precinct judges, and oversees the election department.

► Stores the county's permanent records (e.g., land records, court records, etc.)

How well is the Commissioners Court performing?

Sometimes, it is hard to know because our current court is almost always reluctant to provide full disclosure of facts and details related to the decisions it makes regarding public policy. It releases only the minimal, legally-required information about its policy decisions, especially regarding those issues that have generated public opposition.

This is not right. They are your representatives.

They owe it to you to be forthright about their decisions and actions. We should know not only what decisions commissioners make, but why each of them voted as he or she did.
